Our Community

We are proud providers of athletic training coverage to most of the area high schools and at Jackson Catholic Middle School. Our certified athletic trainers are there to make sure your children are safe while on the field.

Our Education and Experience

Athletic training is recognized as an allied health care profession by the American Medical Association. Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) have at least a bachelor's degree and have passed a national certifying exam. ATCs are educated and experienced in providing the following services to the physically active population.

ATCs are educated and experienced in providing:

  • Injury prevention
  • Immediate injury care
  • Injury assessment
  • Rehabilitation and conditioning
  • Education and counseling

The certified athletic trainer's main function is to keep individuals participating at a high functional level, whether in athletic, exercise, or work-related activities.

What is an ATC?

Certified Athletic Trainers are highly educated and skilled professionals specializing in athletic healthcare. In cooperation with Physicians and other allied Health Personnel, the athletic trainer functions as an integral member of the athletic health care team in secondary schools, colleges and universities, sports medicine clinics, professional sports programs and other athletic health care settings.

Our Athletic Trainers have at minimum, a bachelor’s degree , usually in athletic training, health, physical education or exercise science.

Our Athletic Trainers are Board Certified and use the designation, ATC.

Athletic Trainers (ATC’s)

Name: Amy Chamberlain, MS, ATC, CSCS/Sports Medicine Director

Bio: Amy graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in Sports Medicine in 1992, and obtained her Master's Degree from the University of Oregon. Amy is the Sports Medicine Director at ORS. She has provided part-time medical coverage for Columbia Central High School since 1996 and now focuses her time managing the Certified Athletic Trainers for all of our local schools. Amy also works at Michigan Automotive Compressors, Inc., providing injury prevention programs, work tolerance screenings and rehabilitation for injured workers. In addition, Amy is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She develops performance enhancement clinics and coach's clinics for Optimal Performance Specialists, LLC, a subsidiary of ORS. Amy is always searching out the newest and best techniques to keep area athletes healthy and at their peak performance.

 

Name: Carrie Stevens, ATC – Lumen Christi High School

Bio: Carrie graduated from Otterbien College, in Westerville, Ohio, with a B.S. in Sports Medicine in 1994. She provided full time athletic training coverage for Lumen Christi from 1996-2003. After a brief time in another aspect of healthcare, she returned to Lumen Christi in 2008. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association and the Michigan Athletic Trainer's Society.

 

 

Name: Alison Jacokes, ATC, PTA

Bio: Alison received her degree in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science from Central Michigan University. She is an active member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society, Inc., where she sits on the Educational Committee. Alison was the head athletic trainer at Western High School, providing medical coverage for many athletics at the school. Alison is a certified instructor for the American Red Cross in community first aid and CPR. Alison is also a recent graduate of Kellogg Community College with her degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant and is currently working at our Page Avenue clinic.

 

Name: Dave Brock, ATC. – Northwest High School

Bio: Dave received his degree in Sports Medicine from Central Michigan University. In 2005, Dave was selected to work with athletes at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society, Inc. Dave is head athletic trainer at Northwest High School, providing medical coverage for many athletics at the school.

 

Name: Rick Sigler, ATC. – Michigan Center High School

Bio: Rick received his degree in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science from Central Michigan University. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society. Rick has been the head athletic trainer at Michigan Center High School, providing medical coverage for many athletics at the school for the past six years. Rick also enjoys offering nutritional information advice and tips to constantly improve the athlete's overall health.


 

Name: Chris Cowan, ATC. – Western High School

Bio: Chris received his degree in Athletic Training from Eastern Michigan University. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and Michigan Athletic Trainers Society. Chris provides full time medical coverage as the head Athletic Trainer for all athletes at Western High School. During the summer months, Chris works as a part of our performance training team, assisting Jackson area athletes in their pursuit of optimal sport performance.

Name: Brandon Klump, MSPT, ATC

Bio: Brandon graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2002 with a Master's of Science in Physical Therapy. Brandon is also a Certified Athletic Trainer. He provides part-time coverage at Vandercook Lake High School while working as a full-time physical therapist at the Robinson Road Clinic.


 

Name: Nick VanBoglen, ATC, CSCS - Columbia Central High School

Bio: Nick received his degree in Athletic Training and Exercise Science from Albion College. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Nick provides medical coverage at severl jackson area schools. As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Nick has been actively involved with implementing performance training to improve the athletes of the greater Jackson area so they may perform optimally in their sport. Nick is constantly in pursuit to improve his knowledge in performance enhancement to better train his athletes.

 

Name: Brandon Payne, MS, ATC - Hanover-Horton High School

Bio: Brandon received his Bachelor's Degree in Sports Medicine from Central Michigan University and obtained his Master's Degree from Utah State University. He is an active member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association. Brandon is the head Athletic Trainer at Hanover-Horton High School providing medical coverage for all teams. "The thing I enjoy the most about Athletic Training is the uncertainty of the job. Each day will be different and you have to be ready for anything at all times."

 

Name: Marko Grbesa, MS, ATC - Jackson High School

Bio: Marko attended Michigan State University and received a degree in Kinesiology with a specialization in Athletic Training. He received his Master's Degree in Athletic Training from West Virginia University. Marko is the head Athletic Trainer at Jackson High School. He is also a member of the national Athletic Trainer's Association and the Michigan Athletic Trainer's Association.

 Name: Tyler Cortright, ATC - Concord High School

Bio: Tyler is a graduate of Hope College where he received his degree in athletic training. While in college, Tyler worked with the Green Bay Packers providing athletic training coverage for the professional athletes for two pre-seasons. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association. He is currently working toward his Master's degree in Sports Administration from the Universit of California - Pennsylvania. He is also working toward his strength and conditioning specialist certification (CSCS) throught the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Tyler provides medical coverage at Concord High School while also spending time with Optimal Performance Specialists implementing performance training programs for the area athletes who desire to improve their atleticism and sports performance levels.
